There is a need for parent training and community awareness in the protection of children’s rights in order for children to develop to their full cognitive, emotional, social and physical potential. Communities have a significant effect on children and families. A sense of community plays an important role in the development of children’s feelings of belonging and security.
P.E.T. is an internationally renowned, evidence-based method for teaching parenting skills. Using this methodology, Sukuma Sakhe Development undertakes workshop programmes which involve parents and families. Our P.E.T. workshops are held weekly at various sites throughout the province and are facilitated by accredited P.E.T. instructors. The P.E.T. workshops consist of lectures, demonstrations, workbook exercises, role-playing, homework and group discussions.
SSD believes that the P.E.T. workshops will positively contribute to the development of children within affected communities, and furthermore enhance their opportunities for success in later life. The workshops offered will raise awareness amongst families and communities with regards to correct, evidence-based methods for raising well-rounded children, and ensure effective adult-child relations.
